About Us
John Pickering and Partners are specialist personal injury solicitors with 3 offices in northern England. We were established in 1979 and the firm specialises in industrial disease and in particular, claims for asbestos related disease. We deal with claims for the asbestos related diseases; mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis and diffuse pleural thickening.
We only act for vistims of asbestos disease and do not represent employers or organisations that caused asbestos exposure or their insurers. We act for clients nationally and internationally and although based in northern England, we act for clients all over the UK. We also act for asbestos sufferers abroad who may live in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Malta, USA, Canada, etc.
We have acted for asbestos sufferers in most of the leading test cases in this area. We have had numerous cases proceed to the House of Lords and were involved in the Fairchild Appeals, acting fro two of the three claimants in thelandmark judgment that preserved the rights of mesothelioma victims to recover compensation. We also acted for Mrs Barker in Barker v Corus UK Plc, the case that was the impetus for Parliament to introduce legislation to protect mesothelioma victims.
We have been consistently highly ranked by law guides. The Chambers 2007 law guide ranked us as one of the Best of the UK for carrying out industrial disease litigation. The Legal 500 Guide stated in its 2007 edition that the firm "..has a formidable track record in industrial disease claims, particularly claims relating to asbestos and occupational asthma."
We are on the panels of several prominent asbestos support groups nationwide. Most of our cases are done via conditional fee agreements.
